Once summer hits, most are like “time for no school work and no reading!” This summer, I had a school book to read, but I didn’t read just that. The first thing I did when school ended was reading non-stop - including not making plans with friends just so I could read. Out of the 14 books I read, here are a few of them:

1. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover - I absolutely loved this book’ I could read it five times over and not get sick of it. It had me hooked every second based on the actions of the characters such as Ryle, Lily and Atlas. The story about Lily and Atlas was so interesting to read because of the fact that she was the only one who cared for him just as he cared for her later on. The book also made me angry about the way Ryle acted towards Lily. As a child Lily’s mom was abused by Lily’s dad. Ryles’ actions brought up past drama that she had experienced as a kid.

2. Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomen - I read this book in 4 days; it was so cute and I loved the representation of Jewish heritage and the celebration of  the Jewish holidays throughout the book. Throughout the book, I was reminded of the Parent Trap relating to the same way they tried to set up their bosses. The plot twist at the end made my jaw drop. I would give this book 5 stars - I loved it.

3. Darling Girl by Liz Michalski - My school summer book did take me a while, but it was definitely worth it in the end. Chapter after chapter unfolded another piece of information resolving the problem of the story at the end. I loved the different retellings of Peter Pan and the darker sides rather than the original Disney classic. The story takes place around Holly Darling, the great granddaughter of Wendy and her two kids, Jack and Eden. I didn’t like how Holly acted around Jack and the way she was  overbearing over him during the search for Eden.

4. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han - This book was such a quick read, and don’t get mad, but it was definitely better than the show. I do for sure like Conrad more than Jeremiah, but they were both annoying in the first book. The rest of the series was also really interesting, the third was my favorite out of the three.

5. Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter - Lastly, this is one of my favorite books; it was so easy to get into and read because of the style of writing. Each chapter was fairly short and the text was on the bigger side making it easier to read. Painter also used a good hook to create interest. I also loved getting to listen to the music playlist from the soundtrack in the back of the book. It was so sad how high school student Wes Bennet was helping Liz with her childhood crush all the while he was just trying to get her to see that he wasn’t annoying like Liz thought.

This past summer was the most I have ever read and I hope to break that record next summer. There was even a day at camp that I read almost 50 pages just from sitting at a theater rehearsal. I can’t wait to see what my 2022 book list looks like!!
