My 3 Favorite Things About Spring Term
Living in Connecticut, I only get about a month and a half of good, spring weather before I leave boarding school for the summer. It's hard to appreciate the little things in life, so writing them down makes them easier to remember and to be grateful for.
By far, my favorite thing about spring term is Creeking season. Creeking is not a niche activity although it sounds like it. Creaking is when the weather gets good enough to the point people spend their Sundays on the fields by the creek and lay in the sun for hours. Someone always brings a speaker, spike ball, or volleyball to the creek, and it is always such a good way for the community to come together. The vibes are always so high when it’s hot enough for creeking after we hibernate from October to April.
My second favorite thing about spring term at school is going to dinner in town. Usually, during the year, the sun sets at 4:30 and it gets to below freezing by 5. When May rolls around, the sun starts setting at 8, and it says in the mid-60s, which entices people to get dressed up and go into town for a girls’ dinner. This is one of my favorite pastimes. I love going into town with some of my closest friends and enjoying the sunset, the weather, and the beautiful nature.
My third and final favorite thing about spring term may sound boring, but it is my favorite: getting laundry. I pick my laundry up at the school gates, meaning I have to walk through campus at 7 to get it. Without a doubt every single time I do my laundry during spring term, there are at least 10 people playing spikeball or throwing around a lacrosse ball. People-watching is one of my favorite activities, but I love it even more when seeing people as humans, enjoying the sunset, and being outside. It makes me grateful that I go to a school where we value community and appreciate where we are.
